A team of Filipino engineers have developed a pedal-operated hand-washer to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The team of of Filipino engineers tapped by the Federal Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institute (TVET) of Ethiopia, has conceptualised a mechanically operated technology to support the fight against the global health pandemic.
To reduce the spread of contamination, two prototypes of the pedal-operated hand-washer was developed, of which one was funded by the German development agency GIZ.
One is being used as a model for the production of 30 units to be installed around the capital, and the other will be used by other federal TVET colleges to produce hand washing units for localities.
