Officials of the DVET, under the Ministry of Labour, Invalid and Social Affairs, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) had a meeting in Hanoi on July 11, 2019, to discuss a project on assessment for skills and technologies for sectors with high growth in Southeast Asia.
Consultant Richard McClellan from the ADB delegation said that the project included 4 phases: Analyse industry sectors and review key documents; Assess available national policy framework; Analyse skill areas of industry 4.0 for prioritized industries; Prepare synthesis report and organized a regional workshop. Presently, the project is in the first phase. He added that the ADB is seeking suggestions from Vietnam on the country’s two prioritized industry sectors. In reply, the DVET briefed about skill development in Viet Nam that has been based on the nationally approved frame of occupational skills to serve for industry sectors in industry 4.0, including basic skills for all sectors, common skills for a sector and group of specific skills for specific jobs, among others.
At the end of the meeting, Mr Do Nang Khanh, DVET Deputy Director-General, highly appreciated the ADB delegation for the close cooperation with DVET in reviewing and assessing occupational skill development in Viet Nam as well as ADB’s assistance to Viet Nam vocational training, especially in the development of industry 4.0.
