ASEAN Business Awards 2020 is officially announced – honoring the best businesses in Southeast Asia
The ABA 2020 awards will honor businesses in the ASEAN and will be a great motivation for them to continue promoting their creative spirit, building new directions of development in accordance with economic conditions post-pandemic.
This is the second time Vietnam held ABA and Madame Nguyen Thi Nga chair the award. Previously on 2010, Madame Nguyen Thi Nga also has tremendous contribution to the successful and reputation of this award.
At an interface session between the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC) and the leaders of the bloc’s countries within the framework of the 36th ASEAN Summit, Madame Nguyen Thi Nga reported to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and leaders of the ASEAN that ABA 2020 will honor the bloc’s businesses for their outstanding contribution to prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic region wide.
Speaking at the event, Madame Nguyen Thi Nga shared: “2020 is a special year for global businesses in general and ASEAN businesses in particular at a time when the Covid -19 pandemic has brought tremendous negative impacts. However, this is also the time when the best enterprises show their bravery and spirit to overcome difficulties as they not only ensure sustainable development of their enterprises but also contribute to the prevention of the pandemic. Therefore, ABA 2020 has a special stature, in a special context that honors exceptionally excellent businesses across the region.”
The award, granted annually, is not only an opportunity for all businesses in the region to be honored for demonstrating their important position in the ASEAN economy; at the same time, it is also an opportunity for the global business community to better understand the solidarity and strength of ASEAN businesses, thereby promoting trade, investment, and economic integration.
Sharing about the importance of ABA 2020 to ASEAN BAC and in the year Vietnam chair ASEAN, Dr. Doan Duy Khuong, Chairman of ASEAN BAC 2020 indicated that ABA always has an extremely important meaning in the activities of ASEAN BAC and the ASEAN chair country year in general. At ABA 2020, the meaning of this award is even more special as ASEAN businesses need to unite and share, to not only overcome difficulties but also to take advantage of opportunities that have opened up as the pandemic is controlled.

The ABA 2020 award system is expected to divided into nine categories built on the inheritance and refinement of ABA in previous years and developing award categories in accordance with the current socio-economic situation of the region including Priority Integration Sectors; SME Excellence; Young Entrepreneur; Woman Entrepreneur; Family Business; Skills Development; Friends of ASEAN; Inclusive Business; and Combating Covid-19.

ABA 2020 is expected to accepting applications at the beginning of August and it is expected that the registration time for enterprises in the region will last until September, after which the Organizing Committee will conduct the judging process and the jury (including experts, academics, and leading economists representing the 10 ASEAN countries) will be invited to discuss and make a final decision on the winners.
The ABA Awards event is scheduled to be held in November in Hanoi, accompanied by the 37th ASEAN Summit and attended by the leaders of the government of Vietnam and other countries in the region.
