New training centres open to conduct higher-level training programs

TAGUIG CITY. The Manila Times (16 June 2022) - The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is set to open two heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) training centers in Cebu City and Davao City, in partnership with Japanese air-con company, Daikin.

This comes after the signing of the memorandum of agreement between Tesda and Daikin Philippines in July 2021 and the launch of the first HVAC Training Center inside the Tesda Complex in Taguig last December.

Daikin will renovate a facility in its Central Visayas Regional Training Center into a state-of-the-art training center by devising and executing higher-level training programs to generate employees trained in the latest technology in air-conditioning installation and maintenance.

Meanwhile, Daikin is currently refurbishing the existing HVAC Training Center in Davao City to be at par with international standards.

Tesda chief Isidro Lapeña expressed gratitude to Daikin Philippines for expanding the partnership to provide industry-driven training for the HVAC sector and produce highly-equipped Filipino workers through these training centers.

"The goal of this partnership is to advocate and elevate the Philippine air-conditioning industry to greater heights. This, in turn, will increase the available opportunities for our kababayans (fellow Filipinos)," he said.

Lapeña added that with the upcoming renovation and modernization of training venues, the public — both new learners and professionals — will be able to upskill themselves.

The launching of the Tesda Training Centers in Cebu and Davao was led by the Tesda chief with Daikin Philippines president Takayoshi Miki. Also present at both events were Tesda Deputy Director-General for Tesda Operations Lina Sarmiento, Chief of Staff Director Juliet Orozco, and Tesda Regional Directors Gamaliel Vicente Jr. and Lorenzo Macapili.
