Cambodia seeks human resource training support from Singapore

Khmer Times, Cambodia (November, 2020) - Cambodia has asked for more support from Singapore in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector to respond to worldwide advancements in technology.

The suggestion was made during a meeting between Labour Minister Ith Samheng and outgoing Singapore Ambassador Michael Tan at the ministry on November 23, 2020 where both sides committed to furthering Cambodia’s employment and human resources training.

Samheng discussed the progress of diplomatic relations, especially in the labour sector, as vocational training between Cambodia and Singapore has contributed significantly to the development of the Kingdom. He said that Singapore has helped to provide many Cambodians with technical skills, especially by sending professional Singaporean teachers to Cambodia.

The minister expressed a further need for human resources in Cambodia and noted that Singapore has played a significant role in promoting the TVET sector.

According to a Ministry of Labour statement in the meeting, Ambassador Tan highlighted the efforts of the Singapore government and the Embassy of Singapore in providing technical and vocational training to Cambodian trainees.

The ministry statement said that the two sides pledged to continue to strengthen their cooperation, especially in the context of COVID-19 which both governments have prevented and resolved well and in a timely manner.

Ambassador Tan also thanked the Cambodian government for its COVID-19 response which created favourable conditions for Singaporean investors to resume their normal business operations.

He said he would convey Samheng’s request for the Singapore government to consider and continue to cooperate better with Cambodia.
