Over 900 civil servants selected for Vocational Training Course

Khmer Times, Cambodia (08 January, 2021) - The Ministry of Public Works and the Council of the Royal School of Administration have identified 942 civil servants as candidates for the 2021 continuing Vocational Training Course as full-time interns.

The civil servants who will pursue the course are, among others, from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and the Ministry of National Defence.

According to the Public Works Ministry, senior officials will attend the administrative management training course and others the intermediate officer training course at the Royal School of Administration. The continuing vocational training in 2021 will be implemented from February 1, 2021 until graduation.

Youk Bunna, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Works, stated the training has been in planned since November 2020, but due to the COVID-19 situation, it has been put to a halt. Due to the COVID-19 situation, not all of the training sessions will be undertaken run in consideration of the hygiene standards, health measures, and the limited the number of civil servants who can come to study.

Bunna said that they have met with the management committee to consider the teaching methods. Some civil servants will learn through online sessions and some will learn in physical classes. He added that this training course is to improve the capacity of the civil servants at all levels and they want to provide such training courses as much as possible.

Bunna said the school will work to improve the training programme to suit both the needs of the civil servants and their institutions.

“In principle, after civil servants complete their training, they will return to work in their original ministries and institutions. Within the framework of government incentives, they will be promoted accordingly,” he said.

Bunna said based on previous training stints, he has seen that civil servants who are competent and do a good job have had the opportunity to be promoted.

“For our school, we strive to provide civil servants with the opportunity to practice their abilities in accordance with the development of society, especially in the context of the fourth industrial revolution and the digital economy to boost Cambodia’s competitiveness,” he said.
